What is map pack ranking factors?

Google states that local results are ordered by relevance, distance and prominence, which together decide whether your business appears in the map pack for a given search.

Relevance is how well your profile and site match what was searched, driven heavily by your primary category and the services you list. Distance is how close you are to the searcher or the area they named, which is the factor you cannot change. Prominence covers how well known and well regarded the business is, built from reviews, your web presence, citations and organic strength. Google publishes these three plainly, but not their weights, and everything beyond that, including the popular annual practitioner surveys, is informed estimation rather than confirmed fact.

What you can act on is narrower than most guides suggest. Choose the most accurate primary category and do not get clever with it, fill out services and service areas, publish photos regularly, and build reviews steadily rather than in bursts. Keep your name, address and phone identical across the web. Then accept the geometry: a business in Boerne will not consistently show in the pack for a search made in central San Antonio. If you need coverage across a metro, that is an argument for real locations or for paid ads, not for faking an address.
