It was called Google My Business until 2021 and is now managed mostly from Search and Maps directly. You verify ownership, then set your name, primary and secondary categories, address or service area, hours, phone, website, services, attributes, photos and a description. You can publish posts, answer questions, collect reviews and respond to them, and see basic performance data on how people found you and what they did. Keeping it accurate matters more than it looks, since many customers decide from the profile alone and never open your website.
Treat it as a live property, not a one time setup. The profiles that perform are the ones getting fresh photos, prompt review responses, correct holiday hours and a complete service list. The common failures are easy to avoid: a category chosen loosely, a tracking number swapped in where the main phone should be, a service area drawn across a whole state, and no photos since the day it was claimed. For a contractor, twenty minutes a week here usually returns more than twenty minutes anywhere else in marketing.
