Rather than optimizing single pages in isolation, you map the full set of questions and subtopics around a subject and build out the pages to cover them, linked together so the relationship is obvious. Google has never confirmed a metric called topical authority, so treat it as a working model rather than a documented ranking factor. The reasoning holds up in practice though. A site with twenty connected, useful pages about roofing, written by people who do roofing, usually outranks a general site with one roofing article, and it gives AI systems far more to retrieve.
For a service business the practical version is to pick your most profitable service and cover it properly before starting another. If you make most of your money on commercial flat roofs, build the page on flat roof systems, the page on common leak causes, the page on coating versus replacement, the page on what the work costs in your market, and the local pages for each city you serve. Interlink them. That cluster will outperform one page per service spread thinly across everything you could technically do.
