The work starts with lists and ends with decisions. You gather candidate phrases from Google autocomplete, related searches, your own Search Console data, competitor pages and customer calls, then attach what you can learn about each one: rough search volume, how hard the current top results look, and what kind of page would be needed to compete. Volume numbers from any tool are estimates and should be treated as relative signals rather than facts. The goal is not a spreadsheet of thousands of terms. It is a short, ranked list of pages to create.
For a local service business the valuable terms are often unglamorous and low volume. A phrase searched thirty times a month in your county by people with a broken water heater is worth more than a national term with a hundred times the volume. Mine your call logs and your intake forms for the words customers actually use, because they rarely use industry language. A clinic team may say endodontic therapy while every patient types root canal. Build the page around the words the patient types.
