It differs from a general website page by its focus. There is one offer, one message matched to the source the visitor came from, and one primary call to action, often with navigation reduced so there is less to wander off into. Supporting elements earn their place by helping the decision: proof that you do this work, pricing context, the service area, and a short form or a phone number. Message match matters most. If the ad promised emergency water heater replacement, the page headline should say that, not welcome to our website.
For a contractor running paid traffic, sending clicks to the homepage is the most expensive habit there is. A homepage has to serve everyone, so it converts a specific intent poorly. Build one page per campaign: an emergency AC repair page for the emergency ads, a bathroom remodel page for the remodel ads, each with a phone number visible above the fold on mobile and a form short enough to finish at a stoplight. Same budget, same clicks, noticeably more booked jobs.
