Look for an agency that understands the repair methods well enough to write about them, reports on calls and booked jobs, lets you own your site and accounts, and does not lock you into a long contract. Ask to see what AI tools say about your company before and after.
Test their understanding first. Ask how they would write a page about pier and beam leveling or explain the difference between helical and push piers. If they cannot hold a basic conversation about your work, their content will be generic, and generic content does not rank well or get cited by AI tools. You do not need them to be engineers, but they should ask good questions and listen. A good sign is an agency that asks to talk with your estimators, because the best content comes from the questions homeowners actually ask in the field.
Then look at ownership and reporting. You should own your domain, website, Google Business Profile and analytics accounts. Some agencies build on platforms you cannot take with you, or rent you leads that stop when you leave. Reports should show calls, form fills and where they came from, not just rankings for terms nobody searches. Ask for a sample monthly report before you sign. If it is full of charts but never mentions calls or booked inspections, expect the same once you are a client.
Finally, check the terms. Twelve month contracts are common but not necessary. A good agency earns the next month. Also ask who will actually do the work, how often you will hear from them and how quickly they make site changes when you add a service or area. Heights Digital works month to month at $399 after a $750 build, and we start with a free site audit that shows your current rankings, profile health and what ChatGPT and Gemini say about your company. Send the site over. We will tell you what is broken, what you could rank for, and whether AI search knows you exist. No charge and no pitch deck.
