What Is llms.txt and Should Your Business Website Have One?

llms.txt is a simple text file placed at the root of a website (yoursite.com/llms.txt) that summarizes what the site is about and links to its most important pages, written for AI systems rather than people. It's an emerging convention, not an official standard, but it costs almost nothing to add.

What goes in it

• Your business name and a one-paragraph summary.
• Key facts: location, service area, founding, contact, pricing where public.
• Links to your main service pages, locations and guides.
• Optionally a longer llms-full.txt with FAQ answers and definitions.

Why it may help

AI crawlers and assistants have to figure out what your business does from scattered pages. A clean summary with accurate facts reduces confusion and makes it easier for them to describe you correctly.

What it won't do

It's not a ranking shortcut. It supports, but doesn't replace, clear pages, schema, consistent listings and reviews.
