How to Hide Your Home Address on Google Business Profile (Service-Area Business Setup)
If you run a service business from home — plumbing, landscaping, cleaning, mobile detailing, consulting — you should not display your home address on Google. You also shouldn't lose rankings because of it. Google's service-area business (SAB) setup handles both. Here's how to do it right.
Set up as a service-area business
In your Google Business Profile, under Location, turn off "show address" and add your service areas instead. Google allows up to 20 areas (cities, counties or zip codes). Choose the ones you actually serve; over-reaching hurts relevance.
Verification
SABs often verify by video, showing your vehicle, tools, signage and proof of business. Have those ready. Never use a P.O. box or virtual office as an address — it's a suspension risk.
Where you'll rank
SABs rank based on the searcher's location relative to your service areas and your actual base. You'll rank best close to home. Reviews, categories, photos and activity matter as much as for storefronts.
Keep it consistent
Your website should list the service area (cities), not a home address. Citations should match: business name, phone, service area. Schema should use areaServed rather than a street address.
Avoid suspensions
No address in the name, no fake storefront, no keyword stuffing, one profile per business. If you get suspended, appeal with documentation.
Rank like a storefront
