Use directories for reach, but treat your own website and Google Business Profile as home base. Directories help patients find you, yet you share the page with competitors and pay for bookings. Your own site is the one place every detail is yours to control.
Booking platforms like Zocdoc and insurance directories are part of how patients search, and AI tools often reference them. A complete, accurate listing is worth having. For some practices, especially new ones, paid booking platforms can fill the schedule while other channels grow. They can make sense when you have open chair time and need patients quickly. Check every listing at least twice a year for wrong hours, old doctors or outdated insurance plans, since those errors spread quickly once AI tools pick them up.
The tradeoff is control and cost. On a directory, your listing sits next to competitors, sometimes with their ads above you. Paid platforms charge per booking or by subscription, and patients may come back through the platform instead of calling you directly. You also cannot fully control how your practice is described or which services stand out. Directory booking data also lives on the platform, which can make it harder to see the full patient journey or to compare costs across channels fairly.
Your own website and Google Business Profile have none of those limits. They are where you explain your services, team and insurance in your own words, and they feed Google and AI answers directly. Most practices do best keeping directory listings accurate while investing steadily in their own site. Track new patients by source so you know what each channel truly costs. Ask every new patient how they found you and log it in your practice management system. That simple habit tells you more than any platform dashboard will.
Send the site over. We will tell you what is broken, what you could rank for, and whether AI search knows you exist. No charge and no pitch deck.
