How can a roofing company rank in multiple cities without opening a fake office?

Set your Google Business Profile up as a service area business, hide the street address if customers do not visit you, and build one genuinely useful page per city you serve. Fake offices and virtual addresses get profiles suspended and are not worth the risk.

The longer answer

Most roofers work out of a shop or a home office and drive to every job, which is exactly what Google's service area business setup was built for. You list the cities and counties you cover, hide the address, and Google understands you travel to the customer. What it will not do is rank you in the map pack forty minutes away just because you added that town to your list. The map pack still leans heavily on distance from your verified location. So for the towns beyond your home base, your website does most of the heavy lifting through organic results, AI answers and reviews that mention those places.

City pages are where most roofers go wrong. Copying one page and swapping the town name is thin content, and both Google and AI tools learn to ignore it. A real city page talks about the roofs you actually see there: the older subdivisions with original three tab shingles, the HOAs that require certain colors, the hail corridor that runs through the north side, the permit office and its turnaround. Add photos from jobs in that town, a short project write up or two, and reviews from customers who live there. That is the kind of local detail nobody can fake and an AI engine can actually quote.

Avoid virtual offices, UPS boxes and coworking desks used only to get a pin in a new city. Google reps catch them through video verification and competitor reports, and a suspension can take your main profile down with it. If you truly open a staffed location with signage and a crew, then a second profile is legitimate. Until then, focus on strong city pages, steady reviews and consistent citations. Heights Digital builds roofing city pages this way as part of our monthly plan, and you can call or text (210) 729-4008 if you want us to look at your current setup.

What to take from this

  • Use a service area business profile with the address hidden if customers do not come to you.
  • The map pack favors proximity, so outer towns rely more on organic pages and reviews.
  • Write each city page around real local roof types, HOAs, storms and permits.
  • Add job photos and reviews from customers in that specific town.
  • Virtual offices and mailbox addresses risk suspension of your whole profile.
