Before hiring a marketing agency, a roofer should ask who owns the website and Google profile, what is included each month, whether there is a long contract, how results are reported, and whether leads are shared with other roofers. Clear answers to those questions filter out most bad fits.
Ownership comes first. Some agencies build your site on their own platform and keep it if you leave, or they set up your Google Business Profile under their account. Ask directly whether you will own your domain, website and profile, and get admin access to all of them from day one. If an agency hesitates, that tells you how hard it will be to leave later. Also ask whether call tracking numbers will be used and who owns them, since changing numbers later can create mismatched listings.
Next, ask about contract terms and exactly what you get each month. Long contracts lock you in even when results are weak. Ask how many pages or posts they publish, who writes them, whether profile management is included, and how they report. Be wary of anyone who guarantees first place rankings or a set number of leads, since nobody controls Google or AI answers. Ask to see what a typical monthly report looks like before you sign. It should talk about calls, form fills and signed jobs, not just impressions and traffic.
Finally, ask whether they work with other roofers in your market. Some roofing marketing companies are really lead generators that sell the same calls to several contractors. An agency serving several roofers in the same town has to decide who gets the best keywords and attention, and that is rarely a fair fight. It is also worth asking for a couple of current client references you can call yourself. Heights Digital runs month to month with no contract, you own everything we build, and you can call or text (210) 729-4008 with any of these questions before signing up.
