Are you an aspiring vlogger or YouTuber? Or you may want to be a professional YouTuber or the next YouTube sensation, who knows, right?
“Vlogging” or video blogging popularity has been on the rise for a while, but especially picked up as a place of connection when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and people were in quarantine or lockdown at home.
What is Vlogging? – Vlogging is a video blog or video log, often shortened to vlog, is a form of blog for which the medium is video, and is a form of web television. Vlog entries often combine embedded video with supporting text, images, and other metadata. Entries can be recorded in one take or cut into multiple parts. Wikipedia
Basic vlog gear you will need:
- Camera – This is the most important thing to have when you want to vlog, the camera. For a starter, if you can’t afford the DSLR camera yet, make use of what you have like your smartphone, desktop with a built-in camera, or laptop instead. If you have the budget, then invest in a good DSLR camera or a GoPro.
- Tripod – You don’t need a super high-end tripod to hold your camera or smartphone. A good and sturdy tripod is all you need to support your camera as it improves the quality of the video. Carbon fiber tripods are sturdy and lightweight if you are looking for one to take with you on the go.
- Lighting – Lighting can make or break a video. Using lighting equipment can dramatically improve the quality of the video. Using good lighting, especially when recording at home will make you look glowing as it adds color to your face and skin and most importantly – a professional look. You can utilize the natural lights at home or combine them with a lamp, depending on your lighting needs. If you want more lights that are warm and subtle, start with a ring light.
- Microphone – What is a good quality video when you have poor sound quality? It is very important that your viewers can hear you crystal clear when you are talking, otherwise, they will leave in just a matter of seconds. There are different kinds of microphones that will suit your needs. Invest in a good quality microphone.
- Editing software – So, you have your video ready and it is time to put it together. There are tons of editing products to choose from – from free to buying the software or paying a subscription. Free editing software is mostly pre-installed in the smartphone or can be downloaded from the App store. If you want or need professional editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro X, or Vegas Movie Studio Platinum then you have to buy the software or pay the subscription costs.
